An American flag patch that’s ready to press

An American flag patch is the quickest way to give a hat, bag or jacket a clean, patriotic look.

These are molded PVC (rubber) patches, 1/8″ thick, with raised detail and a solid border. They are water and dirt resistant, so they hold up on work caps, range bags and gear that gets used hard. Each American flag patch has heat-activated Kota Pro adhesive already on the back, so it is ready for a heat press. These patches come as shown; they are not personalized or engraved. They are a great match for our custom engraved patches when you want a flag on one side of the hat and a logo on the other.

• Red, White & Blue: the full-color flag, in 3 1/4″ x 1 3/4″ or a small 2″ x 1 1/4″
• Red Line: black and white flag with a red stripe, in support of firefighters
• Blue Line: black and white flag with a blue stripe, in support of law enforcement
• Green Line: gray and white flag with a green stripe, in support of the military
• Black Subdued: an all-black tonal flag for a low-key look
• Eagle: a bold red, white and blue eagle, 3 1/8″ x 2 1/2″

How to apply your PVC patches

PVC is heat sensitive, so it needs a lower temperature than fabric or faux leather patches. Too much heat on the face of the patch can soften or melt it. Always test on a scrap or spare hat first, and confirm your press temperature with a heat gun.

• Pre-activate: leave the paper on the back and press the adhesive side against the heated platen for 5-7 seconds. This warms the glue and makes the patch easier to place.
• Dual-heated hat press (best): top platen 280-300°F, bottom platen on high, medium-high pressure, 20-30 seconds. Start at the low end of the time.
• Single-heated hat press: top platen 280-300°F, high pressure. Press for 20-30 seconds, let the patch cool briefly, then press again for 20-30 seconds. The pause keeps the face from overheating.
• Peel off the paper backing before the final press, and let the patch cool completely before you flex the hat or test the edges.
• We don’t recommend a household iron, because it is hard to control the temperature and can melt the PVC. For extra hold on gear that gets abused, add a few stitches around the border.
