Fantasy Football Trophy Guide: Types, Costs and Engraving
The best fantasy football trophy is one your league will actually fight over: a perpetual (traveling) trophy with a plate for every champion’s name, or a personal keeper trophy for the winner. Pick the type first, then the size, then the engraving wording. Do it before Week 1 and the whole season gets more fun.
We laser engrave trophies to order in our small Georgia shop, and we see the same questions every fall. Who keeps it? Who pays for the plates? What do we put on it? This guide answers all of that, with real price ranges and a few wording ideas you can steal.
TL;DR
- Choose between a perpetual trophy that stays with the league and passes from champion to champion, or an individual trophy the winner keeps for good.
- Budget roughly $30 for a simple engraved award and well over $100 for a big perpetual trophy, then split it through league dues.
- Agree in the offseason who keeps the trophy, who pays for new engraving and when it comes back.
- Keep the engraving short: league name, year, champion name and team name. Add a score or a joke only if there is room.
- Leagues, offices and groups ordering several awards at once can request a quote for bulk orders.

What a fantasy football trophy is really for
A fantasy football trophy is tangible proof that one manager beat everyone else. Coverage of fantasy prizes describes them as physical proof of a manager’s championship, and that is the whole point. Screenshots of a standings page disappear. A trophy sits on a shelf or a desk where everyone who walks by can see it.
A good trophy does three jobs:
- It recognizes the champion.
- It creates a lasting symbol of bragging rights.
- It raises the stakes, which tends to keep people engaged late in the season. Gridiron Experts lists recognition, bragging rights and competitive engagement as the main reasons leagues buy one.
Some leagues also hand out a loser’s trophy or punishment award, which we cover below. It is a fun way to keep last place involved too.
Perpetual trophy or keeper trophy?
This is the biggest decision, and it changes everything else you buy.
A perpetual trophy, also called a traveling trophy, belongs to the league. According to Yahoo Sports, each winner’s name is engraved on it, building a running record of champions, and the current champion holds it until a new one is crowned. These are usually bigger, with a base or column built to hold many nameplates.
An individual award is the opposite. The same source describes awards that are kept permanently by each winner. Every year you buy a new one, so the cost repeats, but nobody has to ship a trophy across the country in August.
| Perpetual (traveling) trophy | Individual keeper trophy | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns it | The league | The winner |
| Engraving | Every champion’s name added over time | One name, one year |
| Upfront cost | Higher, once | Lower, but repeated yearly |
| Best for | Long-running leagues with friends in the same area | New leagues, spread-out leagues, office leagues |
| Main risk | Getting it back before the next season | Costs add up over the years |
If your league has run for more than a few seasons and half the managers are friends from the same town, go perpetual. If your league is spread over six states, a keeper trophy saves a lot of headaches.
Types of fantasy football trophies and awards
Leagues have far more options than a gold cup on a stand. Here are the formats we see most often.
Classic football trophies
Resin football figures on a base are the most recognizable choice, and a flat plate on the front takes the engraving. FanDuel Research calls an engraved trophy a standard fantasy football option, with leagues commonly engraving every champion’s name. For this look, see our personalized football and fantasy football resin trophy, custom engraved to order with your personalization.
Cups and sports ball trophies
A cup feels like the real thing. If your league wants a more traditional award, a personalized crystal cup trophy or a sports ball resin trophy gives you room for a name and a short message.
Belts, rings, jerseys and mini helmets
Not every league wants a trophy. Yahoo Sports lists wrestling-style belts, championship rings, custom jerseys and mini-helmets as alternatives, and FanDuel adds cups, banners and football-themed designs. Belts are great for the champion to wear at the draft party. Rings work well as individual keepers.
Acrylic and crystal awards
If your league is an office group and the trophy will live on a desk, a clean glass-style award looks sharp and takes engraving beautifully. A clear acrylic award is a good fit when the winner wants something understated.
Medals for the side awards
Most leagues have more than one prize: high points, best comeback, runner-up. Medals are an easy way to cover them. Our Starbrite sports medals come in gold, silver or bronze, so you can rank your top three without buying three trophies.
The loser’s trophy
Gridiron Experts notes that some leagues use a separate loser’s trophy or punishment award. The trick is to make it funny, not mean. A resin trophy or small plaque engraved with something like “Toilet Bowl Champion” and the year does the job. Pass it down the same way as the main trophy.
What to put on the engraving
Most of the engraving questions we get come down to space. A plate is small, and a list of ten champions needs room. Plan it like this.
Perpetual trophy. Reserve the main plate for the league name and the trophy’s title, such as “The Gridiron Cup.” Then add one line per champion: year, manager name and team name. If the trophy has several plates or a base with space, order only the first one now and add the rest as you go.
Keeper trophy. Use the league name, season, “Champion,” the manager’s name and the team name. A final record or points total is a nice extra if there is space.
Side awards. Keep it to the award name, the year and the name.
A few wording ideas:
- “Sunday Showdown League | 2026 Champion | Dave R. | Team Blitz”
- “Last Place, 2026 | Wear It Proud”
- “Highest Points | Week 9 | 187.4”
Two rules we repeat to every customer. First, spell every name and team the way the manager does, and have someone else read it back before you order. Second, shorter is better. Small, clean lettering looks more like a real award than a crowded plate. For more on keeping text clear on a small plate, our shop team can help you at checkout, since personalization is included on every item and entered right on the product page.
Materials, size and features to check
Before you buy anything, run through this short checklist.
- Material. Resin is the usual choice for figures because it holds detail and is lighter than metal. Acrylic and crystal suit desk awards. Wood bases look warm and classic.
- Size. Think about where it will live. A very tall trophy is fun on a mantel and a pain to mail. A compact one fits a shelf and a shipping box.
- Engraving area. Check that there is room for the lines you want, and whether more plates can be added later for a perpetual trophy.
- Shipping and handling. If the trophy travels between managers, it needs to survive a box. Tall, thin pieces are riskiest.
- Finish. Gold, antique gold and silver tones all read as “trophy.” Pick whatever matches how serious your league is.
The Awards & Recognition collection in our shop shows the full range, so you can compare materials side by side.
How much does a fantasy football trophy cost?

Prices swing a lot, mostly by size, material and whether the trophy is built to hold many names. In a roundup of ten trophies checked in September 2026, Bleacher Nation lists a budget perpetual trophy at about $50 to $60, a traditional 17-inch design at about $130, and premium towers at $349 or more. The same roundup puts a simple engraved one-time award at $30 and up. Those are other sellers’ listed prices, so treat them as a guide to the market and check current numbers before you buy.
What moves the price:
- Size and weight. Bigger trophies use more material.
- Material. Crystal and metal cost more than resin or acrylic.
- Engraving. Some sellers charge per line or per plate. Ours is included with every item.
- Extras. Extra plates, display bases and gift boxes add up.
- Quantity. If you want a main trophy plus medals for side awards, ordering together can simplify things.
Who pays?
Bleacher Nation’s advice is simple: include the trophy in league expenses and collect it through entry fees. If you run a 12-team league, adding a few dollars per manager covers a good trophy and a set of medals without anyone feeling squeezed. Decide before the draft, not after the title game.
Set the rules in the offseason
Trophy arguments are never about the trophy. They are about the unwritten rules. The same Bleacher Nation piece suggests leagues decide in the offseason who keeps a perpetual trophy, who pays for future engraving and how it gets returned before the next championship. Put these in your league constitution:
- The champion holds the trophy until a set date before the next season’s draft.
- The champion pays shipping to the next holder or brings it to the draft.
- Engraving for the new champion is paid from league funds, and it is added before the trophy is handed over.
- Damage or loss is the holder’s responsibility, or the league’s. Pick one.
Write it down once and nobody has to argue about it again.
Our perspective
We have engraved a lot of trophies, and the ones people love most are never the biggest. They are the ones where the wording feels like the league. A name, a team name and a year, set cleanly and lined up properly, can make an inexpensive trophy feel like a real prize.
That is why we like a custom engraved resin football for fantasy leagues. It looks like what it is, a trophy for football fans, and the personalization is included, so you are not counting up per-line fees. Every piece is laser engraved to order in our Georgia shop, which means we can fit your league’s exact wording.
Our advice: order early. Do not wait for the title game. Get the main trophy and a few medals ready before Week 1, because a trophy on the table at the draft party changes how seriously everyone plays.
And if the person you are buying for is a league commissioner, remember that a custom engraved award makes a great thank-you gift for the person who runs everything.

Ordering for a league, office or group
Fantasy leagues often live inside workplaces, clubs and friend groups. If you are the commissioner ordering a trophy, a set of medals and maybe thank-you awards for the people who keep the league running, it helps to order in one go. Our Awards & Recognition collection covers trophies, plaques and desk awards, and our bulk orders page is the place to ask for a quote and volume pricing when you need several pieces, whether for a league, a company or a team. If you also want ideas for how groups recognize people beyond the winner, these team award ideas show creative themes you can borrow for your own league’s side prizes.

FAQ
What is a perpetual fantasy football trophy?
It is a trophy owned by the league instead of one winner. Each champion’s name is engraved on it, and the current champion keeps it until a new one is crowned. It builds a visible history of your league over the years.
How much should we spend on a fantasy football trophy?
That depends on your league. Published roundups show simple engraved awards starting around $30 and larger perpetual trophies running well past $100. A common approach is to collect a few dollars from each manager with the entry fee so the cost is shared.
What should we engrave on a fantasy football trophy?
Keep it short: league name, year, champion’s name and team name. On a perpetual trophy, add one line per champion. Have a second person proofread every name before you order, since engraving cannot be undone.
Can we give out more than one trophy?
Yes, and many leagues do. Besides the champion’s trophy, you can give medals for runner-up or high points, and a funny trophy for last place. Medals are an easy, low-cost way to cover the side awards.
Are there alternatives to a trophy?
Absolutely. Belts, championship rings, custom jerseys and mini-helmets are all popular alternatives. Pick the one your champion would actually want to keep or show off.
